In order to reach your goals and maintain them, you really need to change your whole perspective on life. You have to change your lifestyle. No amount of time spent on the treadmill will help you achieve your gals if you haven’t realized that you need to change first. Martial arts is the most holistic form of exercises and one of the few that will work on the most important body part-your mind.

First of all, exercising through martial arts is fun. It’s fun because its exercise but it’s not presented like exercise so it doesn’t feel like you are exercising. When you take a martial arts class you will be learning a valuable skill which is self-defense and while you’re learning self-defense you really don’t notice that you’re exercising. This is great for those just starting out because it helps them to stay motivated.

As far as the actual exercise is concerned martial arts encompasses everything.  It is very aerobic. All the kicking and punching in martial arts is sure to get your heart rate up. The weight will start dropping off.

Losing weight is good for your health but if you want to really look good you need to tone. Martial arts is a great way to get toned. Holding your position, using your own body weight will give you lean long muscles. You won’t bulk up but instead be lean as martial arts warriors dance has the same effects on the body as yoga.

Martial arts will also make you much more balanced. Your flexibility and range of motion will increase. As you can see martial arts embodies total fitness by helping you lose weight and become flexible, balanced and stronger. And when you’re done, not only will look good and feel good you will have a skill that you can use. Can you name any other exercise program that can do all of that for you?

The cornerstone of martial arts is discipline and respect. Your martial arts instructor will mostly likely spend a lot of time getting you to understand this. That discipline instilled in you during your martial arts training will affect every other aspect of your life. It will help you push on with your fitness goals even when you think you can’t. And knowing that you’re strong and can defend yourself will increase your self-esteem. Feeling better about yourself will make you want to treat yourself better and you will not go back to your old ways.
